Jofur Drengir (Boar Warriors)
While we don't know for sure if the Vikings ever visited King Máine's Fort, we do know they travelled up the Rivers Shannon, Camlin and Inny and Viking artefacts were found in the nearby Breany fort excavation. Wherever they went the Vikings raided and traded before settling down to found many Irish towns and cities.

We are delighted to welcome the Jofur Drengir (Boar Warriors) band of Vikings for the weekend. As well as setting up traditional tents, showcasing their wares and sharing their fighting tips with new recruits we have a number of Viking traditional skills workshops on offer. These must be booked in advance through the PayPal links below.

Combat-ready shield making
Over the two days Bartek will guide you through the stages of Viking shield making and provide all materials. By the end of the workshop you will have a professional combat-ready shield. This is an adult only workshop as the complicated techniques involve the use of power tools. Price includes expert tuition, all materials, entry to all other events over the weekend, light lunch and free tea and coffee. Very limited places, booking through the button below is essential.

Haithabu Bag Making Workshop
Ajatotu will guide you through the creation of your own traditional Haithabu bag in this two hour workshop on Saturday 14th July. All materials will be provided which include pure linen and carved wooden handles. Price includes entry to all other events on the day and free tea/coffee.

Nalbinding Hat Workshop
Nalbinding is the Viking-Age term for single needle knitting, a traditional wool craft that would be used to make woolen hats, socks and gloves. Ajatotu will teach this one hour class on Sunday 15th July, where you will learn  the traditional Oslo stitch. At the end of the class you will be well on your way to making a hat which you can finish at home. All material will be provided but you can bring your favourite thick wool if you prefer. Price includes entry to all other events on the day and free tea/coffee.
